8-Hour Academic Driver Education Courses 

Course Information

All students are required to complete 8 hours of classroom instruction. Class sizes are limited, and all “Open” courses currently have availability. Classes may be taken at either the East or West location, and dates/times are subject to change.

Payments & Scheduling: Students on installment plans must complete payments to be assigned a driver and schedule behind-the-wheel lessons. Lessons include door-side pickup within the Wichita metro area and suburbs. Students without a learner’s permit will receive a temporary permit through the course, which most will later exchange for a Photo IP at the DMV.

Course Duration: The standard 14-hour course (8 hours classroom / 6 hours behind the wheel) typically takes 4–5 weeksto complete. Students with prior driving experience or faster learning can finish sooner, while beginners may spread out lessons to allow additional practice with parents. Daytime lessons (8:00 AM–2:30 PM) are available for students looking to accelerate completion during the school year.

Important: The 14-hour course is the minimum requirement under Kansas law to obtain a Restricted License (RL) or Driver’s License (DL). Any driving school that issues a Certificate of Completion without fulfilling state-mandated classroom or driving hours is violating regulations and may face penalties.

Parent Support: Questions can be addressed before class (7:30–8:00 AM), during lunch (12:00–12:40 PM), after class (5:00–5:15 PM), or anytime during driving lessons. You may also email us at wichitadriving@cs.com.

Required Documents: Please bring proof of lawful presence (birth certificate, Social Security card, or unexpired passport) and proof of Kansas residency (utility bill with parent/guardian’s name) to class.

Our classes primarily serve teenagers from Wichita area schools, including USD 259 Wichita, Bishop Carroll, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Maize, and Goddard, as well as students from surrounding communities such as Derby, Andover, Valley Center, Park City, Haysville, Rose Hill, Mulvane, Augusta, Colwich/Andale, Newton, and others.

Exchange Students:

• High School Exchange Students: The DMV requires a J-1 form, I-94 form, and a valid visa/passport with at least 90 days remaining in the United States.
• College Exchange Students: The DMV requires an I-20, I-94 form, and a valid visa/passport with at least 60 days remaining in the United States.

• All students are due to attend eight hours of class, our class sizes are limited.
• All "Open" courses have availability. Dates and times are subject to change.
• You can choose to take our classes from either of our locations depending on your convenience of location.
• Under normal circumstances, calls will be made in approximately 10 days after the class to arrange for the driving times. 
• Students who have not already obtained their learner's permit at the DMV will get one through this course.  Depending on driving ability, this 14-hour course takes about 3-5 weeks to complete.

*NOTE: OUR AVERAGE STUDENT FINISHES THE PROGRAM IN ABOUT 5 WEEKS.

FOR STUDENTS WHICH STRUGGLE AT DRIVING/OR HAVE BUSY SCHEDULES, DRIVER'S ED HAS TO BE FINISHED W/IN 6 MONTHS, OTHERWISE YOU MUST START COMPLETELY OVER, OR TEST OUT AT THE DMV, ETC.
