Defensive Driving Courses

Join Our Accident-Prevention Refresher Courses to Get Insurance Discounts!

Wichita Driving School offers Defensive Driving Courses authorized by the Kansas Department of Insurance, nationally certified for insurance discounts or point reductions (verify with your insurance provider). Since 2005, we have provided Accident Prevention courses, and currently offer over 20 Defensive Driving courses annually.

Please refer to the posted schedule and select the class you wish to attend. Be cautious of promotional claims from other schools that suggest similar courses are offered for free—our courses are legitimate, certified, and recognized.

Course Locations:

  • All DDC-8 Defensive Driving and DDC-4 Alive at 25 courses are held at the West Office: 724 N. Country Acres (one block west of Central & Ridge Road).

Call in advance to reserve your spot and schedule your class. Enrollment must be confirmed prior to the day of class.

National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses

After obtaining a license, students can reinforce safe driving habits and earn insurance discounts or point reductions by taking one of our NSC Defensive Driving courses. These refresher courses include:

  • Alive at 25 (4 hours): Focuses on attitude, behavior, and judgment for high-risk drivers. Teaches the dangers of distractions, peer pressure, and inexperience—providing knowledge that lasts a lifetime.
  • Defensive Driving (8 hours): Identifies risky behaviors and attitudes, studies why most collisions are preventable, and teaches hazard detection, collision avoidance, and defensive driving techniques.

Both courses emphasize personal responsibility, creating low-risk, safe driving habits that can prevent injury or save lives.

Course Details & Pricing:

  • Regular price: $130
  • WDS Driver Education students: $65 (50% discount, pre-enrollment required, no refunds)
  • Students have 12 months after completing Driver Education to take the course. NSC recommends completing 50 practice hours and/or obtaining a license first.
  • Approximately 20 NSC classes are offered each year, all held at the West Office: 724 N. Country Acres.

Defensive Driving (DDC-8) refresher courses cost $130.00. WDS Driver Education students, who pre-enroll for the course, get the discount price of $65.00.
